Child poverty & its effects
4.2 million children live in poverty in the UK. That’s 9 children in every class of 30 and this number is expected to have risen due to the Covid pandemic.
Poverty has a damaging impact not just on educational achievement but also on nearly every aspect of a child’s life.
Mental Health
Young people living in deprived areas are 5x more likely to be unhappy than children from wealthier families.
Environment
Some children have to work in cramped conditions with no space of their own, sometimes without heating or food.
Education
By the end of primary school, children living in poverty are 9 months behind their peers in reading, writing & maths.
Friendships
Poverty affects friendships, children growing up in poverty are more likely to play alone or fall out with their friends.
what we do
Experiences that inspire
We provide grants to schools, charities and organisations who dedicate their time to improving the education and life experiences of underprivileged children by providing educational experiences they would otherwise miss.
We fund projects which help these organisations stretch the capabilities of disadvantaged children and provide a strong foundation for their future.
